Golden Eye 007 Remake is a project aimed at recreating one of the levels and gameplay from the original Golden Eye 007 game with a modern game engine and additional mechanics.

In this project, I decided to add mechanics such as bullet time, dual-wielded and dashing mechanics to the existing gameplay to make it feel more action-based gameplay than the spy-like gameplay of the original game. For the level, I have recreated the Depot level from the ground up.


This project is from IDD324 GAME DESIGN 3 class. The requirement for this project is to recreate the original gameplay and one of the levels but there must be new mechanics that the based game doesn't have that need to be implemented into the existing gameplay.

Design Process

Before working on the project, I created a mechanic proposal to present what I'll be adding in the future to my professor first. After that, I start to work on the basic Golden Eye mechanic and then add my own mechanic after everything is in place and then test it out that if it works or not in a mockup level.


After the mechanics are completed, I started to work recreating the Depot level from the original game by creating a scaled layout of the level while testing it out on the Engine. After the block out is completed, I started to work on the props within the scene using Maya and Substance Painter and then putting it in the scene.


After the gameplay are finished, I started to work on implementing the player interface, main menu, and Golden Eye's briefing scene before finalizing the project.

End Result Gameplay

This is the end result of the project, a 007 game with a more action twist to the game.


Retrospective

What went well

Gameplay implementation: Implementing new mechanics into existing gameplay while trying to balance it out.

Remake: The remake of the existing game went smoothly. while it may not closely resemble the original game, the aesthetic is there and the player can feel it.



What did I receive

Unreal Engine experience: Blueprint's experience in creating the game.

Level floor plan design: Knowledge from studying the design of the original floor plan and recreating it using a real-world scale in the plan.
